What is High Tg PCB?

Tg refers to the high heat resistance of PCB raw materials. The following are helpful guidelines for classifying printed circuit boards according to temperature resistance:

check green color

Standard copper-clad PCBs: 130 ° C ~ 140 ° C

check green color

Middle Tg PCBs: > 150 ° C

check green color

High Tg PCBs: > 170 ° C (typical range 180 ° C ~225 ° C)

Many high TG materials, such as rigid and flexible polyimide materials, have an average Tg of 220 ° C. The substrate temperature filled with carbon ceramics is higher than 280 ° C, and the Teflon-based PCB material temperature is higher than 300 ° C.

FAQs

What is FR-4?
arrow down
It is one of the common base materials for PCB. It is a code for the grade of fire-resistant material, which means that the resin material must be able to extinguish itself after burning. FR-4 is not a material name but a material grade.
What is an aluminum PCB?
arrow down
Aluminum PCB is a metal-based copper-clad laminate with good heat dissipation function. Generally, a single panel comprises three layers: the circuit layer (copper foil), the insulation layer, and the metal base layer. It is widely used in LED lighting products. There are positive and negative sides. The white side is used for welding LED pins, and the other side is aluminum. Generally, it will contact the thermal conductive part after being coated with a thermally conductive paste.
What are metal-core PCBs?
arrow down
Metal-core PCBs (MC PCBs) includes aluminum PCB, copper based PCB and iron based PCB
How to reduce the risk of PCB bending and deformation?
arrow down

Reduce the impact of temperature on PCB

Since temperature is the primary source of PCB stress, as long as the temperature of the reflow furnace slows down the production heating speed of PCB in the welding furnace, the bending and warping of the plate can be significantly reduced.

Use higher TG material

It can increase their ability to withstand stress and deformation. However, the production cost of PCBs is also higher.

Increase the PCB thickness

For the lighter weight, many electronic products have PCB thicknesses of 1.0mm, 0.8mm, or 0.6mm. It is recommended that if there is no requirement, the circuit board should be 1.6mm thick, which can significantly reduce the risk of bending and deformation of the board.

Reduce the PCB size

Since most welding furnaces use chains to drive PCB forward, it will sag and deform in the back welding furnace due to its weight, so PCB can be used as the edge of the back welding plate as much as possible to reduce the sag and deformation caused by the weight of the circuit board itself.

Use a furnace holder clamp

It is customary to use the furnace to reduce PCB deformation and reduce plate bending on the stove. If the single-layer tray cannot reduce the deformation of the PCB, a cover must be added to clamp the upper and lower trays of the circuit board to reduce the deformation of the welding furnace above the circuit board.
Differences between HDI PCB and ordinary PCB?
arrow down

HDI is smaller and lighter

The electrical interconnection between HDI boards is realized through conductive through-via, buried-via, and blind-via connections. Its structure is different from that of ordinary multilayer circuit boards. A large number of HDI boards use micro-buried blind vias. HDI uses direct laser drilling, while standard PCB usually uses mechanical drilling, so the number of layers and aspect ratio is often reduced.

HDI has high cabling density.

Micro guide via, fine line width, line spacing, high pad density, and thin dielectric thickness.

HDI board has better electrical performance.

HDI's increased interconnect density allows for enhanced signal strength and improved reliability. In addition, HDI board has better improvement for radio frequency interference, electromagnetic wave interference, electrostatic discharge, heat conduction, etc. HDI also adopts complete digital signal process control (DSP) technology and several patented technologies, with a full range of adaptive load capacity and short-term solid overload capacity.
